Description
La Flor Dominicana, or Dominican Flower, is a boutique cigar brand owned by cigar maker Litto Gomez Diez and made in the Dominican Republic. Called the “most innovative mind in the cigar business” by Cigar Aficionado, Litto creates cigars with a blend of Dominican filler and binder, and a Nicaraguan wrapper from the top of the tobacco plant for a full-bodied, rich smoke.
La Flor Dominicana Oro cigars feature a blend similar to the Coronado, but with the added flavor and strength from a Nicaraguan Habano Sun Grown wrapper from higher primings of the plant. The binder and fillers are sourced from La Canela farm in the Dominican Republic, resulting in a medium brown, oily wrapper. The cigar delivers a spicy punch with coffee and sweet notes, ending with a long, pleasant finish. The La Flor Dominicana Chisel, one of the strongest and most unique cigars on the market, is now protected by a trademark for its distinct flattened figurado shape that resembles a hand tool or woodwind mouthpiece. This trademark, which covers the shape of the cigar, is retroactive to 2006 and valid until 2016. The name “Chisel” is also registered. The idea for the shape came to cigarmaker Litto Gomez while chewing on a traditional torpedo during a drive in the Dominican Republic. Impressed with the shape, he instructed workers in his factory to recreate it.
Tasting notes:
It’s considerably strong with spicy leather and tingly ginger on the palate, plus hearty hickory wood.
